Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired the meeting and delivered a speech titled “Carrying Forward the Shanghai Spirit to Build a Community of Shared Future”.
The core idea is that the SCO should abide by the Charter of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Treaty on Long-term Good-neighborly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation.
Although China and India are both members of the SCO, the year 2017 saw a deterioration in the relationship between the two countries after years of stability.
The main task facing Russia in the near future is to attract as much Chinese investment as possible, with preferential terms.
Xi and Putin trust each other and share their thoughts with each other, which is important to the relationship.
Aiming to forge a “community with a shared future for humanity,” the SCO is intended to be a regional community of common security, economic collaboration and social cooperation.
The upcoming 18th SCO summit will witness the gathering of leaders of SCO member states and observer states, as well as heads of international organizations in Qingdao, a coastal city in East China’s Shandong province.
At a time when the global order is undergoing a fundamental shift, some of the most hope-inspiring initiatives are being implemented by China under the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping.
Mr. Wang Kaiwen, the deputy secretary-general of the SCO, noted that the original aspiration of the SCO was to promote peace, cooperation and friendship among the member states.
Putin’s state visit to China is a grand bilateral activity. It is also the first meeting between Putin and Xi Jinping since they were re-elected as presidents of Russia and China, Denisov added.
This year’s SCO leaders’ summit is going to be “a new milestone in the history of the SCO” in the light of the accession of India and Pakistan, two South Asian rivals, to the prestigious SCO consortium last year, the first ever expansion since its inception in 2001 in Shanghai.
The meeting will also see the release of milestone documents that codify their consensus. All this will further enhance the solidarity and influence of the SCO.
