Cinque Terre, this is not…

Nor is it Jodhpur (India), Guanajuato (Mexico), Valaparaiso (Chile), or Bo-Kaap (South Africa). It is Datong City, an ancient water town in Qionglai, Sichuan Province, that recently decided to give its aging facade something of a facelift. A good idea in theory perhaps, but the resulting online opinion was divided. Some felt the new look brightened up the town while others found the colors inappropriate for such an ancient town (yep!). Regardless of what one might think, the new color scheme has reportedly attracted many visitors to the town, boosting the local economy. But for how long will they stay flavor of the month? And will they paint it back when they are not?
