Quality of Life Indicators: Education ——Better and Fairer Education to Realize the Youth Dream
“Education is the foundation of national development in the long run. It is the fundamental way for mankind to pass on culture and knowledge, raise new generations and create a better life.”
These words were spoken by President Xi Jinping in his speech at the press conference of the 18th CPC Central Committee. Emphasizing the point, he continued: “Meeting the people’s wish for a good life is our goal.”
The development of education comes first, and China continues to increase its investment in education. Over the past five years, central government spending on education has increased every year, up by a total of 40.33% between 2012 and 2016.
Better and fairer education benefits all the people in the country. China works hard to ensure that every child has the opportunity to go to school, and enable its 1.3 billion people to enjoy a better and fairer education, so that they can acquire the ability to develop themselves, thus make their best contributions to the modernization of China.
In the past five years China has optimized the student loan system, expanded pre-assigned enrolment in poor rural areas, and provided support and guarantees to help students in their study.
The outstanding quality of China’s education system is recognized worldwide, and the country is directing its focus to a combination of learning and practicality, teaching students according to their abilities.
Reform of the higher education admission examination is under constant review, to give students an all-round education.
NDRC, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance announced in September a list of 137 universities for building world first-class universities and first-class disciplines is China’s new strategy for the development of higher education.
